Membership information

South Cambridge Striders offers a range of membership benefits, including the option to join as an registered athlete with England Athletics.

We warmly welcome new runners and encourage you to try out training sessions before committing to full membership. All new members are offered a three-session trial, after which you’ll be invited to complete your membership to continue attending club runs. We look forward to welcoming you to the club.

England Athletics membership benefits

We encourage members of South Cambridge Striders to also register with England Athletics (EA), particularly if you’re interested in taking part in races and organised running events. Please note, you do not need to be an EA member to be a member of South Cambridge Striders.

England Athletics is part of UK Athletics (UKA), and registration is only available through affiliated running or athletics clubs. While EA registration is optional, it offers a number of benefits, including:

Registering with England Athletics can also improve the club’s chances of securing places in events such as the London Marathon. EA-affiliated clubs may apply for marathon places based on the number of registered members aged 18 and over. After the public ballot results are announced, any South Cambridge Striders members who are unsuccessful may be eligible to enter a club ballot, subject to availability.

Membership FAQs

How much does it cost to join the South Cambridge Striders?

South Cambridge Striders Adult core membership costs £20 per year. The membership year runs from April to April. You can sign up at membermojo.co.uk/southcambridgestriders.

Can I try club runs before committing to membership?

Yes. While we are a members-only club, new runners are welcome to try up to three sessions before deciding whether to join. You’ll still need to book onto each run in advance on runtogether Do I need to be a member to take part in club runs? Yes. You’ll need to be a member to attend our regular club runs, although you can take part in up to three trial sessions before joining.

What are the benefits of being a member?

Membership gives you access to led group runs, training sessions, and social events, along with other benefits. You can find full details on our Membership Benefits page.

I can’t afford the membership fee, is any support available?

Yes. If the membership fee would prevent you from joining, please get in touch with us in confidence at membership@southcambridgestriders.org.uk.

Do you accept cash payments?

No. Membership fees can only be paid via online bank transfer or by cheque.

Where does the membership fee go?

Membership fees help cover the running costs of the club, including affiliation fees, insurance, coaching and leadership development, equipment, and the organisation of club activities.

Do I need to be a member of England Athletics to run with South Cambridge Striders?

No. EA membership is optional and not required to take part in club runs.

Does joining South Cambridge Striders make me a member of England Athletics?

No. While South Cambridge Striders is an England Athletics-affiliated club, individual England Athletics membership is separate and requires an additional fee. Find out more about membership benefits.

Do South Cambridge Striders accept members who are under 18?

No, South Cambridge Striders is currently only accepting members over 18 years of age.
